Belliveau's travels spawn questions about life, poverty, worldview, and human relationships. With an extensive bibliography, An Amateur's Guide to the Planet is a good choice for anyone adventurous who wants to retrace some of her steps or for armchair travelers.

Belliveau has written a very funny book, filled with insight and adventure. An Amateur's Guide to the Planet includes many charts and illustrations, and will interest students as well as travelers. This entertaining and informative book deserves to be in most public and academic libraries.

Although I very seldom (really never) read non-fiction, I'm finding each adventure so readable and chock full of interesting facts and information. I've even started keeping a list of little tidbits I find especially illuminating. (Maybe this new knowledge will make me the Jeopardy champ.)
I think one of the most fascinating and distressing concepts I'm grasping is that there's no place no matter how remote that's untouched by modern technology.
